Tottenham have announced the signing of James Maddison from Leicester City.

Tottenham Hotspur have successfully completed the signing of England midfielder James Maddison from Leicester City. The deal, valued at £40 million ($50 million) plus potential add-ons, was finalized after advanced negotiations between the two clubs.

Maddison, who has agreed to a five-year contract, becomes one of the notable arrivals for Tottenham under their new coach Ange Postecoglou. This transfer marks a significant achievement for Spurs, as they have long been admirers of the 26-year-old player.

Having spent five successful years at Leicester, where he contributed to their FA Cup victory in 2021, Maddison amassed 203 appearances, scoring 55 goals, and providing 41 assists. Despite Leicester’s unexpected relegation to the second tier, Maddison displayed his scoring prowess by reaching double figures in goals.

Although Leicester resisted offers for Maddison during the January transfer window in their fight for survival, they have now agreed to his departure. Maddison’s arrival at Tottenham will greatly enhance the squad’s creativity and versatility, filling the void left by Christian Eriksen’s departure in 2020.

The signing of Maddison concludes a busy period for Tottenham, who recently made Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus permanent and secured the services of Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
