Breaking: Manchester United agree £60m package deal for Mason Mount with Chelsea

Manchester United and Chelsea have reached an agreement on a £60 million package deal for Mason Mount. The transfer is now official, with personal terms agreed upon weeks ago and face-to-face discussions between the clubs finalizing the agreement. Mount will be joining Manchester United, and it’s worth noting that United never withdrew from the pursuit of signing him.

After a series of negotiations, it has been confirmed that Mason Mount, a midfielder currently playing for Chelsea, will be joining Manchester United. The transfer deal is estimated to be worth up to £60 million and includes a five-year contract for Mount, with the possibility of extending it for an additional 12 months.

As part of this agreement, Mason Mount stands to earn a significant sum throughout his tenure at Manchester United. His wages are set at a minimum of £78 million, with a weekly salary of £250,000, along with the potential to earn bonuses of up to £300,000 per week based on performance.

Initially, Chelsea had rejected three previous offers from United for Mount. However, they have now accepted a deal that includes a fixed fee of £55 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons that heavily depend on Mount’s appearances and the success of the team.

Manchester United believes that the total sum of £60 million is a fair value for a player of Mount’s caliber, especially considering the potential add-ons that would require significant achievements to be fulfilled. The negotiations between the two clubs concluded on Thursday after United’s third bid, which consisted of £50 million plus £5 million in add-ons, was rejected the previous Friday. Despite the initial rejections, United remained committed to securing the transfer.

Mason Mount was a prime target for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who sought to fill a crucial midfield role within the team. While Mount is expected to primarily feature as a “number eight,” his versatility and football intelligence have garnered admiration from Ten Hag, who is relieved that an agreement has finally been reached as he continues to shape his team.

Initially, United believed that a £50 million fee would be sufficient to acquire Mount’s services. However, they are pleased with the terms that have now been agreed upon. If the add-ons are fulfilled, it would indicate that United has achieved their desired on-field goals.

Chelsea had initially valued Mason Mount at £70 million but preferred to resolve the situation before head coach Mauricio Pochettino officially begins his work on Monday. The players are scheduled to return for pre-season training starting from Tuesday.

In the coming days, Mason Mount will undergo a medical examination and officially sign his contract with Manchester United. The contract duration is set for five years, with the option to extend it for an additional 12 months, potentially keeping him at the club until he reaches the age of 30. Personal terms are not expected to be a hindrance.

It is worth noting that Mason Mount had declined a one-year contract extension offered by Chelsea in February, as negotiations for a longer-term deal to remain at Stamford Bridge had broken down.
